With the interruption of endless revenue streams during the pandemic, collegiate athletics programs are struggling to balance budgets. Add to that competitive pressures to operate beyond the typical level of expenses, NIL, and other emerging issues… it’s no wonder fundraising in college athletics is becoming increasingly complex.
Today on News & Brews Sports Biz, Katie and Ken talk with special guest Ben Broussard, Senior Associate AD with NC State Athletics and Executive Director of the Wolfpack Club. Ben discusses how NC State has been managing donor relationships during these unusual times, including their responses to the cancellation of two post season events. The trio also discussing emerging methods for fundraising, including engaging boosters in NIL and handling of digital assets. And of course, they chat about their brew choices.

Katie and Ken chat with Melody Lechleidner, Tax Director specializing in state and local taxes at James Moore, about navigating taxes on NIL earnings. As discussed in previous episodes, having a basic understanding of tax implications in an NIL landscape is important but often overlooked.
